The Sierra Nevada Dog Drivers club has been around since the early 1960’s. Based originally in Truckee, California It’s members are now stretched across the entire western US from Washington to southern California.
SNDD still puts on a few races per year in Northern California. The one in Chester tends to bring in the largest entry. In Feb 2010 we had near 40 mushers and some having multiple entries. Other races include California Gold Mush held in near Lake Davis which is close to the city of Portola and then the club helped out this year with the Foresthill, Ca, as well.
Another event the club does annually is the Mushing clinic. Held in Early October up in Truckee, Ca. Students pay a registration fee and with a handful of experienced mushers as the instructors they learn how to teach their dog to work in harness and pull. It is a thrill to see the look on their faces when they get to hook their dog up in a well trained team and go on a run.
The membership has often talked of putting together a dryland event. This is a race where the team pull wheeled carts on dirt roads.
More info about the club and its events and becoming a member can be found on the website http://www.sndd.org
